Film slitting

In the slitting and rewinding area, film slitting is generally more complicated than slitting other materials. There are release film, protective film, support film, optical film, single layer film or laminated film.

For the single layer films, a highly accurate slitter rewinder in well-adjusted condition and proper slitting speed would be enough to get ideal finished reels.

If the films are laminated, there are actually at least three layers of materials, substrate, glue, surface material. The slitting blade should be very sharp for processing this kind of films, because blunt blades may lead to dragging of the web during slitting, leaving flaws on the cutting edge.

The pressure level of the rewinding press roller is also important. Insufficient pressure may lead to loose finished reels, but over-pressurization may also squeeze the glue in-between the substrate and the surface material out, piling up on the surface of the cutting edge.
